For generations, the most resilient local businesses have understood a fundamental truth: a company grows only as well as the neighborhood around it. But bridging the gap between everyday business success and meaningful local impact requires more than good intentions; it demands trusted collaboration. Through active civic leadership and direct investment in the region’s well-being, local companies demonstrate that supporting the community is both a smart business choice and personal calling. Here is how Yale Appliance CEO Steve Sheinkopf, turned a century-old family legacy into a blueprint for true community partnership.
Since 1923, Yale Appliance has invested in the communities where we do business. Whether it was our original North End neighborhood or our six locations today, including our MetroWest showroom, supporting the community has always been central to who we are.
For me, though, it’s personal. As the third generation of the Sheinkopf family to lead Yale, I see philanthropy as an extension of our business and our family’s values.
When it came time to establish my donor advised fund, I wanted more than a place to give; I wanted a partner in philanthropy. I was looking for an organization that could help align my giving with the causes that matter most to me and my family. I found that partner in the Community Foundation for MetroWest.
Personalized Guidance
As CEO of Yale, I value building relationships and understanding the people we serve. That’s why I appreciate the Foundation’s personal approach. From day one, I was paired with a dedicated team member who took the time to understand my philanthropic goals. I also know I can pick up the phone at any time to discuss new opportunities, ask questions, and refine my giving strategy.
A Knowledgeable Partner
A lot has changed over the past 100 years, and community needs continue to evolve. The Foundation helps me stay informed through its deep understanding of the region, Impact MetroWest data, and strong community partnerships. Their team has a pulse on where resources are needed most, giving me confidence that my giving will have a meaningful impact.
Continuing a Family Legacy
My parents and grandparents instilled a “giving” mindset in my sister and me from an early age. Today, I hope to pass those same values on to my daughter. In addition to my own, I have established a donor advised fund in her name so she can learn to give with purpose, confidence, and an enduring commitment to her community.
